Biography
Subhajit Singha is an Indian film editor and writer known for an emotionally restrained and deeply immersive approach to cinematic storytelling.
Raised in the small towns of the Dooars, his fascination with cinema began early and developed through formal film education and years of professional editorial practice.
His work spans feature films, streaming series, documentaries, commercials, and experimental narratives.
His credits include internationally recognised films such as Cinemawala (A Farewell to Celluloid), Nagarkirtan, Pyre, and The Scavengers of Dreams, alongside several National Award-winning projects.
His editorial philosophy is rooted in rhythm, silence, emotional suspension, and the relationship between images. He often describes editing as “poetry written with time.”
His work explores subtle human interactions, pauses, fragmented memories, and the emotional weight created through juxtaposition.
Beyond editing, he is the author of Poets of the Darkroom: The Book of Time, Silence and the Cut, a reflective work exploring the philosophy, psychology, and craft of film editing.
